Cate Jarrett hosting at an AdAge event

Creative by trade. Conversational by nature.

On camera when it counts.

I am Cate, an art director and host based in New York. This page is the longer version of how those two jobs became one.

The design years

Eight years ago I started on the design side of the table, in agencies and then in-house, shaping how brands look and how their stories hold together. The clients along the way: Indeed, Red Antler, United Airlines, MetLife, Glossier.

The longest chapter was three seasons leading art direction for Rising Voices, Indeed's award winning BIPOC filmmaker programme with Hillman Grad and Lena Waithe's 271 Films. The job was building an identity strong enough that a large partner group could keep making work inside it without asking permission every time.

That is still how I think about design: not a look, a system other people can live in.

Picking up the microphone

Somewhere in those agency years I became the person who was comfortable in the room: on stages, at activations, in front of founders who did not want to sound like a press release. Hosting stopped being a side note and became half the job.

It has taken me to Cannes Lions, SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, New York Fashion Week and Female Quotient events, asking the follow-up questions others skip.

The craft is the same one as design: listen for the structure underneath, then make space for the true thing to come out.

Both jobs, one person

Since July 2026 I have been fully independent, working directly with brands that are building their own media. The offer is simple: I build the format, direct how it looks, and I am the person on camera carrying it.

The through line in everything is curiosity about what makes people and brands the way they are. Designing a system, running an interview, shaping a story, I am always looking for what feels most true underneath.

Deeply curious about

What makes people and brands the way they are, and the question nobody asked yet.

Happiest when

A guest forgets the camera is there and says the real thing.
